Environmental and finds analysis

Reducing costs with mobile on-site processing services

Lab based and mobile processing

Assessment and detailed analysis of materials extracted from archaeological evaluations and excavations. These studies are carried out as part of commercial developer-funded archaeological investigations and on behalf of other archaeological contractors.

As well as lab based processing the team of environmental specialists are able to provide mobile, on-site processing services which can reduce costs by facilitating a more targeted and meaningful approach to environmental sampling.

This service also reduces the number of samples which need to be transported during fieldwork and is of particular benefit where large-scale excavations are concerned.

Archaeological processing services include:

  • Archaeobotanic remains
  • Faunal remains
  • Mollusca
  • Wood and charcoal
  • Human remains
  • Peat preservation

Specialist peat coring is provided as part of the range of environmental services.

Wardell Armstrong Archaeology has a dedicated finds officer who can provide specialist input to all types of archaeological work including:

  • Advice on artefact recovery
  • Identification and dating of artefacts
  • Assessment reporting
  • Post excavation analysis and reporting
  • Prehistoric to post-medieval pottery analysis.
